Question About Using Hair From Salon
I may or may not have asked this question before, but my multi-concussed noggin has forgotten.
My wife's hair stylist has offered to give her all of the cut hair she has every day. She fills up a trash bag full on most days and tosses it in her dumpster.
Here's the catch. This stylist is a stylist to "The Stars," and so many stars have to use color. So, a high percentage of the hair waste is full of very expensive color dyes as well as other products.
I don't want to use this in our compost. I am thinking about using it around the plants to try to discourage other mammals from having a snack.
Should I take her up on her offer? She says she can save the bag every day or every X days, whatever I want.

I think I also would pass on the hair for the compost, but, the folks down here would be lining up to get the hair(there is a waiting list at every barber shop and salon here!) It works to keep deer away. Just put some in a knee hi and hang on fence post or tree limb.
I 1st tried dog hair but it only worked til it rained. The human hair works great. I don't even have any squirrels anymore, don't know if the hair had anything to do with it or not.

I only use hair from when I cut Hubby's hair or my own because I know there are no chemicals. I use an all natural herbal dye so my hair is no problem in the compost. I have had offers from a friend who owns a salon as well, but I have to just say 'no thanks'

Lead is sometimes used in hair coloring. This is why it is not recommended that people use regular hair dye on their facial hair ... too close to the mouth and lips. I wouldn't use it. My own hair,which isn't treated with anything? Sure why not. But I rarely come into contact with any sizeable amount of it on my own.

That might work for us, since my wife is my barberette. However, she thinks of herself as the Marine Bootcamp barber--she shaves my head to fuzz every Friday night, so there isn't enough to even spread around a lettuce plant.
I will decline her stylist's offer. It would be nice to use it for deer repellent, and I think she uses organic color, but who organic poison is still poison. Still, it would be neat to say that our garden has Nicole Kidman's, Kelly Clarkson's, or Mary Steenburgen's DNA in it.
