playing in the dirt
nothing is quite so satisfying then sending the morning playing in your Mel's Mix
spent the morning rotating in some fresh compost getting prepared for my spring/early summer planting..we are actualy going to try for a dbl harvesting of summer plants since southern California has been getting 70-80 degrees lately..so planting some 3-4month stuff and then plant a late summer/early fall harvest and I am going to try my hand at a oct/nov harvest time of pumpkins this year.
*giggles like a kid* love playing in my MM

Re: playing in the dirt
ALL kids should play in the dirt and grown-ups should also garden without gloves unless you have just painted your nails and you want the nail polish to last a little while). It is good for the immune system. So I have heard.
My siblings and I played in a pile of dirt, using our imaginations to make it a battle field, a mountain or whatever we wanted it to be. Placing buildings on it made with bits of wood and stone etc.

Re: playing in the dirt
Oh, gosh. As an only child, I played in the dirt, making little rivers that I filled from the hose, with stick bridges, riding the little plastic cowboys and Indians with their horses all around the plants. Helps develop an imagination, I think. Planted 6 tomato plants and watched from the kitchen window as a gopher pulled 2 of them into his tunnel under ground. All this in elementary school. Now, here I am playing in the dirt.
[Total side note: I thought playing in the dirt in the South East put one at risk for hookworms. So, I Binged it, and now I read that it has been greatly eliminated in the US. Nice to know. http://www.cdc.gov/parasites/hookworm/index.html]
