After harvesting and starting a new year, how do you replensh the soil mix?  I will by the middle of next month finish my fall and winter boxes and will need to replensh the nutrients to plant my spring gardens.  What do I need to do?

You can do either of two things as far as I'm concerned .

 First as our ANSFG book by Mel Bartholomew says , every time you take something out of a square foot or clear a whole square foot square,  then put a trowel of your own well made home  compost in the square , turn it in well , then plant /sow as usual.

If you don't have Mel's books to read, look in my strap lines for details of them. To me they are worth their weight in gold ,for once you get the system soundly in your heart & mind you'll be producing crops that are the envy of most other gardeners by far .

 I myself tend to have a single crop in a single bed for I preserve by canning,freezing in heat sealed vac packs and in sugar ,salt or vinegars etc. Therefore when I clear a whole bed in an afternoon and process the veg , the next day I simply put two or three buckets of my home made compost on the bed , after taking out any weeds & turning it over to remove any weed roots . Then I turn the bed over with a small long handled trowel to incorporate the compost , reset the one square foot grid lines then  sow/plant the next planned crop .

If it is a long root , root crop I don't add any compost to the emptied bed for the N.P.K. content of my mainly animal dung based composts is fairly high and this would lead to forked roots on carrots , beetroots & parsnips etc.
