A Table Top even I can Build
Has anyone tried anything like this? I wonder how it holds up?

The legs look a little weak to me. Like one unlucky stumble could bring the thing down or cause some damage.

I thought that myself. I think 4x4s would work better...ya think?

A couple of cross braces and it would be perfect. Two by's strong enough.

+1
The joints at the top of the legs will be susceptible to horizontal forces. Bracing will strengthen the joint.
Either cross braces as John suggested, or knee braces, like I drew in.

Re: A Table Top even I can Build
DH used treated 4" x 4" for the posts and 2" x 4" for the sides and every-2-feet support beams. Screwed and bolted, filled and watered, we were still able to drag and lift 2 beds across the grass. Very strong. They are 2' x 8' and 2.5' x 4'.
If I had to build table tops by myself, I might try this for 2' x 3-4' table tops. They would have to stay in place once filled and planted.

Re: A Table Top even I can Build
I should amend what I said about leaving this model in place. DH put wheels on my Gwennifer's Table Top and the legs are just 2" x 4". I would add the lower boards just to make it a tighter unit. even if there is no bottom bed.
