Freezing muskmelons
I tried freezing my muskmelons for the first time. I cut them into small pieces and then put them in a ziplock baggie and into the freezer. Four months later, I got them out. I let them thaw for about a half hour and then tried them. Nice texture and fairly good taste. I like them. However, I was wondering if next time I should put a little sugar or salt before freezing them. Any suggestions?

I'm surprised and impressed that it worked! I've had salt on muskmelons, and it's good. Is there a reason you would put salt or sugar on before freezing?

Cyclone, have you tried dehydrating them? Oh, my....
If you don't have a dehydrator, you can put them in the oven at about 130 degrees for a a hours. Just keep an eye on them. And make sure air can get on all sides, including the bottom.

Never tried dehydrating. The only reason I thought of putting salt or sugar on before freezing was that it might make the melons a little sweeter.

I just read on-line that adding sugar would help preserve color and flavor while frozen. I didn't do an exhaustive search - found one reference and quit. Who knew that it was easy to freeze! Now I'm wondering why I was surprised!
