I'm really depressed that Ray might not be doing his seed giveaway this year. It was something to look forward to when the days were short and uninhabitable.

BUT - 2 months from now we'll be pulling out the fluorescents and starting our seeds. Hard to believe!

Ladies, start you engines! Looks like Ray is gearing up for the giveaway, I just saw him packing up oodles of seeds on my Facebook page. Onions tomatoes peppers lettuce and carrot.

WOOHOO! Oh I hope, I hope, I hope.

It doesn't take much, seeing as how the alternative is to think about the perpetual freezing rain/sleet out there.........

But 10 seeds of this, 10 seeds of that is just fun.

This summer, it's CARROTS OR BUST. If I have to babysit the soil all summer long, those are going to germinate...

I really missed growing celery this summer too. And peppers.

edit: I still can't find anything online about the giveaway, but this is Ray's video on peppers - to plant them deeply because they grow roots from the buried stems, and topping the plant so it grows side shoots and is more productive and sturdy. He sure has a way of growing things indoors. He had a tobacco plant indoors a couple years back that was beautiful.

If it's used at all it must be used carefully and not abused. I use it on individual plants as a last resort. I have used it on poison ivy vine, horsetail and a type of campanula that I have done my best to manually remove  from a few flower beds for the past 5 years and I keep missing these particularly deep rooted plants. I would probably never use this product as a broadcast spray.

The link posted above is interesting, particularly the part about 'Inert' or inactive ingredients.

Ayup, for a minute. And then you got to spend the next 3-6 hours moving the stuff around. After each storm.

Shocked

When I lived in snow country, what bothered me the most was the lingering snow in early spring that sat there getting dirtier and dirtier while it took seemingly forever to melt. It was so ugly and depressing.

What bothers me is the "in-between times," when you're not sure if it's okay to stop watching carefully for ice when you step, and painful falls become more likely.

I got all my shopping done today.  We're expecting over 16" of the white stuff around here, then rain after that, then sleet.  Its time for me to hibernate along with the black bears.

News flash, everybody!  It wasn't poison ivy!  It's shingles!!!

And I'm doing the happy dance! Why? Because it is a mild case. One in three people will get shingles. A small percentage get it more than once, and of those that get it more than once, most of them had it really severely the first time.

Shingles is nothing to laugh at - it can be extremely miserable, but I got lucky this time around, big time!

Camp, truly it's not bad. And I know that's not at all typical of shingles. Multiply what I am experiencing times a hundred, and my heart aches for anyone with a "real" case!

And yes, I do remember you saying that, you smart woman, you!

From the preponderance of TV commercials currently spewing worst case scenarios about shingles, I didn't expect to see anyone doing the happy dance about getting them!  I guess you can be happy about getting that 'old age experience' over and done with in such a mild manner!  New England Dec 2014 - Page 2 3170584802
