Late last week, and this Friday night and Saturday morning were cool with low humidity so I took advantage of it. I was able to get most of my fall garden planted.

Are you planting a fall garden? If so, what are you growing?

Are you direct seeding or using transplants?

What will you do to protect it if the weather turns too cold?

I'm growing a few varieties of lettuces, beans and greens, cukes, carrots, beets, turnips, radishes, snow peas, kohlrabi, cauliflower and herbs.

All are being direct seeded.

I've got a plastic "grow tunnel" for my 2' x 23' SFG. For the non-SFG gardens, like my squash arch, I'll use plastic - I'm planting beans, cukes & snow peas here.

This time of year I can usually jump on this regions thread but this year it's SO COLD here.
Shocked
The other night I actually had to bucket cover the basil and a volunteer tomato that I'm bringing in for the winter.

My SFG maters are winding down as are the squashes. Cukes were doing great up until this cold spell hit recently.  All green leafies are going gung ho as are the newly spouted lettuces.  Peas & beans are a bit stringy...not sure I'll plant those for fall again unless I just want to eat them small.  The fall planted beets don't seem to be doing anything, but they are covered by overgrown bush bean plants.  Rolling Eyes All the mid summer carrots sprouted and seem to be growing, as are the diakon which I've been pulling and eating as needed.

I just seeded some spinach and kale over the weekend hoping they will sprout in early spring - it's an experiment.  Also seeded Pak Choi for fall eating but that silly white cabbage butterfly is still flittin' around and they aren't covered.  I'll probably cover once they sprout.

I have hoops over a greens bed so can throw plastic or row cover over them if I'm moved to do so.  But if the cold starts too early I may get discouraged.  I'm afraid it's going to be a long winter again, kids.

What's happening in everyone else s garden?
