Mystery Nests
This morning I found this while I was watering (it was violently shaking, so the movement caught my attention):
I did a search on the internet, but did not find anything in the spider's nest category that looked like this. Those precision stitches look almost like they were done by a sewing machine. Do you think that this might be the beginnings of a spider's nest, or is it something else altogether?
Two days ago, my wife and daughter found this in one of our marigolds:
Our family is mystified by these things and we are very curious to know what they are. My daughter wants me to open what she found in the marigold, but I am not going to do that. I'm afraid to hurt it.

Thanks all for your helpful responses. We have seen this type of spider many, many times in our shrubs, etc. The yellow markings are very distinctive and so beautiful. I fear something may have happened to this one. This web's location is in a patch of shrubs that is well watered and very lush. It's nice and cool in there, so we have tons of beautiful green lizards who reside there. I am afraid a lizard may have made a meal of her.

Garden Spiders are excellent engineers and seamstresses...could always find them in the garden every year as a kid.
