I need to trellis my peas and beans, but my box only 6'' deep and has to be on a concrete patio because of where I currently live. ANy ideas? Perhaps a tomato cage?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Daniel.  Welcome to the forum!

You could use the cages.  Or you might try 1/2" PVC pipe with strings for stuff to crawl up.

Try doing a search for pvc pipe (upper left corner search area)...

There are pictures in the ALL NEW SQUAREFOOT GARDENING book for a bed with a trellis on a roof top.  I believe they used brackets on one end of the bed holding  emt legs to the side of the bed and guy wires going to the front of the bed to provide tension.  The trellis itself was the basic SFG book version using EMT and corner pieces.

Daniel,  Welcome to the Forum!   glad you\'re here

Securing trellis poles without rebar pounded into the dirt.  Kinda hard to do on a roof!

Securing to outside of box with 2-wing EMT fasteners:
trellis help Trelli12

Using 1" PVC on interior corners of boxes for 1/2" PVC of EMT supports.  I got this idea from someone on the Forum.   I cut and pre-formed plumber's tape which is a lot cheaper than the EMT fasteners.  Plumber's tape is fine for inside corners as there are 2 solid wood sides supporting it.  Two (2) screws on each side would probably be better.

I really, really like this idea (that someone else came up with)  because they are so versatile.  They were installed one day this spring when we were suddenly expecting hail.  I had already put away the free standing PCV frames for the plastic covers for winter protection. I was able to quickly install the 1" holders with husband's help and stick a bunch of 2' scraps of 1/2" PVC, EMT and rebar into the holders and attach pieces of plastic with large binder clips.  I'm glad I saved the pieces even though DH wanted to toss them in the recycle bin.
