Veggie Plant Sale, Lowe's til May 12, 2014
I just got my notice in an email from Lowe's. Big veggie plant sale til May 12th this year. All veggies, different sizes, 2 for $5. That's a good price for those of us needing some plants for our gardens.
I haven't had very good luck with my starts this year. Tried a different method with store-bought seed starting mix and cellpacks. They aren't growing as well as in my soil blocks with soil block mix so I'll have to buy some.
If you have a Lowe's nearby, check them out.

thanks for the heads up Quiltbea
we lost all of our tomato and most of our pepper seedlings ......plus we have new chicks that took over our small green house and to be honest....I just don't feel like starting anything more...... if we don't direct sow them this year, then starts it shall be!
hugs

QB, Thanks for the heads up. From someone who had to buy replace tomatoes, peppers, tomatillos and cucumbers after losing most to curly leaf.

I got a few nice tomato plants and peppers. Also broccoli and Brussels sprouts and lavender and pansies. The pansies were 3 for $5 for 6-cell flats which I thought a bargain.

For some reason, one of my green varieties I had about 10% germination, so I had to pick up a dozen pepper plants (four sweet banana and eight green), so the sale was nice. Plants were nice and large. Seems like Lowes puts a little more into their garden dept employees than HD...although, I'd rather buy from an heirloom (both are hybrids) source. Thanks for the heads up!

Went to Lowe's today but they are not having the veggie sale (in California). The new ads come out Thursday so I will check it out.
But I did see this 6'W x 8'L fiber-reinforced plastic greenhouse for $179. Zipper doors at both ends and 4 roll-up windows, 2 on each side. The poles looked like they were metal.

I stopped at Home Depot in passing and found they are again having their 5 for $10 plant sale and some were cheaper, only 1.74 for a 4-pack (cabbages I noticed).
I guess one has to check all of them to find good prices.

The problem with Lowe's and other big box stores is that the plants are treated with very long-lasting (systemic) pesticides that have the potential to kill pollinators who come to the blossoms later for contaminated nectar and pollen.
Before purchasing, ask them if they are treated with pesticides.
