My loving husband sprayed weed killer around my vegetable boxes.  Evil or Very Mad  I'm pretty upset about it. From what I've been reading because my veggies are in a raised bed in it's own separate soil they should be fine. Is this true? Has all my organic gardening gone to waste?

Bummer!

I think if your plants are still alive you are ahead of the game! If your plants are alive that is the most important thing.

Has your husband now been educated to never, ever do that again? Did he read and follow all the label instructions?

Thanks for your response. Yes my plants are fine. I was concerned about the soil quality at this point. Does weed killer get in the soil?

I think there are different types of weed killer. I may be wrong because I have not used any in years but I think some of them say you can plant in the area 24 hours after you spray. These types are used to kill the weeds or any vegetation they come into contact with but then they break down in the soil. Others are supposed to have a lasting effect to prohibit future growth for so many months. They have some sort of time release chemical to keep anything from growing for a short time.

The great thing about SFG is the raised bed and the MM. The plants love the MM so their roots don't really need to venture outside the box or deep down into the soil. Hopefully he sprayed the stuff that breaks down quickly and everything will be okay.

Yes of course. Weed killer is such a a general term. What was the product your husband was using?

My DH did something similar! He sprayed pre-emergent in several areas in the backyard!  What a Face  It's orange so there was no denying it! He now understands that zero, zip, nada, nottin" is to be used in the backyard. Well, Neem oil at sundown and Sluggo Plus in containers. The back yard with the boxes is mine, the front yard is his. When I work in the front, I wash the tools afterwards.

I liken the experience with a new bride washing a red cotton tee shirt with her groom's tidy whities. Well meaning, bad results! Never to be repeated.
