Chicken manure in Knoxville area?
Hi! I need some chicken manure to add to my mix for new boxes. Got it bagged at Lowe's last year, but they don't carry it any more. Went to Mayo's on Emory, and Home Depot. Neither have it. Does anyone know of a source? I could use some fresh to add to a compost pile for later, if I can't find any bagged right now. thanks!

Black Hen is called fertilizer but is made from composted chicken manure.
Here is the Black Kow company website with instructions on how to get the name of a distributor.

Unfortunately, the only chicken manure currently listed on Knoxville CL is someone who is actually almost to Chattanooga. Too far for me. And, the Black Hen composted manure doesn't seem to be available around here this year. thanks for the responses, tho!

Will any other composted manure do?

I am also interested in horse, goat or rabbit manure. I had a source for goat in Morristown, but don't want to go that far now that I live in Knoxville. thankscamprn wrote:Will any other composted manure do?

Yes, actually, I did check CL. I should clarify that - I checked for chicken manure, and only found an ad where the source was located close to Chattanooga. There are other sources for other manures closer on CL, but no chicken poopers!and you said you checked CL?

Since it seems nobody commercially is offering chicken manure right now, it does make me wonder if there is something wrong with it. So, I will skip that in my mix, and get some other type of manure - horse or rabbit sounds good to me at this point.

Re: Chicken manure in Knoxville area?
Back when I worked, I found out that large poultry operators had farmers who had spoken up for the litter/manure in advance. Competitive situation. Like my 3 close Starbuck's. I have to call in advance for them to save the day's collection for me.
Maybe locate the source/animal first, then ask for the by-product/manure. Ex: dairies, horse stables, rabbits, eggs, chickens, llamas.
Note: Old, composted manure for the Mix, Fresh manure for compost pile

I'd check other Lowes in Knoxville. I'm 45 minutes from Turkey Creek (Farragut) and my Lowes has Plenty of Black Hen. So does the Crossville store.

Re: Chicken manure in Knoxville area?
I bought the Black Hen fertilizer at Knoxville Seed company on Rutledge pike. I do not not remember how much exactly, but I believe it was like $12. They also have coarse vermiculite in a 4 cubic yard bag for $22. Home depot only has 2 cu ft bags and it is the same price.sassykat&joe wrote:Hi!
