Catbranch & Sanderson requested that I post some pix of how DH set up the window box planters on our deck railing to keep them from falling off.

He took chain, wrapped it around the planters on either end and screwed the chain into the railing.

Gutter diverters for rainwater: The product we use is called Catch a Raindrop. Available at HD for less than $10. They have 2 sizes depending on the size of your gutters.

You have to cut the gutter and sandwich this do-dad between the cut sections:

We've been very pleased with them. In just a couple of days of rain, one 330-gallon tote was full and the other was about 1/2 full. And they're small gutters.

One of the things I appreciate about him is that he's very safety conscious... Over-engineers everything!

AM, thanks so much for posting the rain catcher. Everything I looked at was so darn complicated. I think even our handyman can handle this setup. Wink

Sure, CC. It was easy after the gutter was cut. Sandwich this thing in and screw into the gutter top & bottom. Then reattach the gutter to the house.

One question. How do you clean out the leaves in the hopper?

You can buy a roll of plastic mesh that you slip under the roof edge and out over the side edge of the gutter & over the top gutter hopper if you have one , any leaves or debris off the roof simply fall away .

My rainwater diverter has had to be cleaned out twice at the end of autumn this last two years as it became blocked with fine sediments & put very little water into the rainwater barrel.
It was a simple case of disconnecting the outlet pipe and putting the hose pipe on full pressure back into the down pipe at the take off pipe hole for a few seconds .

The first time I did it , I disconnected the plastic downpipe just to make sure it was cleaned out . Now it will just be another annual maintenance event on the November calendar sheet

It is available as a retro fit thing as well & is available in the USA.
We had a running thread on it about this time last year.( I think )
