bed temperatures
My beds are still so frozen a thermometer probe will only go 2 inches deep
Still frozen below that
My cold frame is thawed , however it reads 43 degrees F to 4 inches down..
Kinda cold for planting dontcha think ?

Hello Jimmy,
Could you plant a cool weather crop to tide you over until it warms up? Radish maybe?

Re: bed temperatures
The good news is raised beds will warm up quicker then regular ground row gardens. Also, everyone's in the same frozen boat.

Yup, move over! I need a seat in the frozen boat. And it ticks me off to no end! My seedlings are jumping out of their cell packs trying to get outside.

Re: bed temperatures
jimmy....I can't even see my ground yet. Its still under frozen ice and snow. That's why I'm starting all my seeds a month later than I usually start them. I'm hoping that by mid-April the soil hits the 60s so some things can be direct seeded out there. It all depends on dear Mother Nature.

I tried to tell you... we are behind in the weather here in NH by at the very least two weeks.CapeCoddess wrote:Yup, move over! I need a seat in the frozen boat. And it ticks me off to no end! My seedlings are jumping out of their cell packs trying to get outside.

Re: bed temperatures
Your correct on the warming of the beds.
My cold frame is reading the same temps as my beds, with all ice at 2 inches, however there is no frozen material in the cold frame..
Vash, I would not plant anything in 40 degree temps ( MM )
I think I will wait till it reaches 60 F then plant my growing plants.
Must make room for tomatoes, peppers, egg plants and moms flowers...

Re: bed temperatures
Yesterday, tried to remove the cans over my Sugar Maple Saplings Froze in place
Also surveyed my shed the only reason the roof did not collapse completely was the upright bike rack was holding it in place.
Setup a Temperature data logger in the back yard will leave their till April 1st to see how far behind we are with last year’s temps started it March 5th doing half hour readings
Really hope that the temps keep rising and the snow keeps melting.
Keep those warm thoughts coming it may be working
