Hello from 5A in central Missouri
I joined a couple of days ago but didn't get around to posting.
I've been gardening off and on for 40+ years. This year I am planning on green beans, peas, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, onions, bell peppers, lettuce and spinach. I might throw in a Three Sisters just for fun. Tomatoes haven't done well the past 5 years but might give them a try in SFG style. Part of the garden will be traditional and part SFG.
This winter has been a trying one weather wise. We had some very unusually cold weather and the snow/ice mix stayed on the ground for what seemed like months. This week is looking better for outside work.
See you all around.

Re: Hello from 5A in central Missouri
Welcome DorothyG! You said a mouthful regarding our trying winter! Isn't life fun here in the N&C Midwest?! Last week we had an overnight low of -20, and today it hit 54. Supposed to rise above freezing every day for the next 7 days here, so I am planning on some outdoor work as well. Glad to hear you can see the ground again! Hopefully the snow will be off all my boxes by the end of the week - but we can still get snow here for the next 2 months.

After the long, cold winter, we hit 50 degrees and sunny skies today. My soil is starting to warm up in the cold frame and now is about 45 degrees 2.5 inches deep. Getting ready to plant this week!

Dorothy, Welcome to the Forum! You should really enjoy SFG. Do you have the book, "All New Square Foot Gardening?" If not, I recommend that you get a copy, even gently used off eBay or Amazon. All of the veggies you listed do great in 6" of Mel's Mix, except for the carrots. You can build a Top Hat for the carrot area and fill just it to 10-12." I know it's hard to believe but even corn, planted 4/square, does well in 6" of MM.
Thank you
Goosegirl, we got to 74 today!! At 7pm this evening it was still 69 degrees. Tomorrow night's forecast shows 70% chance of rain/snow with an overnight low of 32.
Cylonegardener, wow, sounds like your soil is warming well in your cold frame. In February the local weather guru said that he dug in his garden and found that it was frozen 6 inches down.
Sanderson, I do have All New Square Foot Gardening. Got it at Dollar General for $2.50 last fall.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes!
