March in the Lower South
This is it. Late in the month I'll be back home and can get my garden started. I left strawberries and garlic growing and I expect they will be looking for some top dressing about then.
I've been following all the snow and ice storms in our region and expect most of you are frustrated at delays. BUT I've seen some posts of plantings in the region. Keep it up. I'm always interested.

Re: March in the Lower South
I know all of you are disappointed in the late spring, but I'm excited that I may be able to get a spring garden after all and may be able to start some of my heirloom tomatoes and peppers. I'll buy broccoli and collard plants and direct sow kale. I leave here Wed. My house sitters plated 4 squares of sugar snap peas and I'll plant 4 more when I get home.
How are the rest of you coping with the late snows and icy weather?

Re: March in the Lower South
I've got peas, sugar peas, beans and a few other things ready to go in the ground once the freezes are over this week. Ready or not, I'll be planting on Sunday!
Re: March in the Lower South
I have already planted Sweet Peas, sugar snap peas, garlic, onions, lettuce, kale, broccoli, brussel sprouts, and shallots. I will have to do some covering up Tues & Wed night because of the freeze warnings.
My grandson said his favorite thing I grew in the garden were carrots. So I guess this weekend I will plant carrots. Carrot week is just too late for my climate. I will also plant radishes this weekend.
I am waiting until after April 15 (after looking at the forecast) to start any warm weather veggies. I should plant some squash inside to get a head start on the SVB and cucumbers inside to get a head start on the pickle worms. Also need to start some flowers - Dwarf French marigolds, zinnias, borage, sunflowers, and cosmos.

Yolos - I'm so jealous! But Sunday's coming... You're about 80 miles south of me, so I can see you having stuff planted already...
Re: March in the Lower South
Only planted cool weather stuff. If I don't get it in early enough, the heat comes in fast and the cool weather veggies either bolt or just stop growing.
But it will be a little too cold tonight. I got off work a little early and rushed home to cover my two most vulnerable beds.

Re: March in the Lower South
I planted lettuces, spinach, snap peas, etc mid-end of February and they are all doing well. I planted my tomatoes and broccoli, that I started indoors, out in the garden about a week and a half ago. FINALLY got potatoes into their grow bags yesterday, three varieties. Have some peppers to go in still. May attempt to sow some squash this week as well, can't wait!
