My notes from my first 4 x 4 say "cow manure - 25 lbs - just less than 1 cubic foot - approx one 5 gallon bucket".  I use black kow now but don't remember if the initial box was composed of any black kow.  But you are asking about a 50 lb bag so maybe this is useless information.

No, but when I was doing my first mix, I came across a bag of compost that had both weight and volume on it.  40 lbs was .75 cu ft.  Using that as a "guide" I decided that a 50 lb bag was 1 cu ft and a 20 lb bag was .5 cu ft. I Used that as my buying guide.  In my case, because I still don't think we are making a cake, I made up my first 60 cu ft batch of MM using a mix of the above to make 20 cu ft.  plus two 3.8 and one 2.0 bales of peat and five 4 cu ft bags of vermiculite.  Things grew great.  If you err, make sure it is more rather than less of the compost.

Thank you for the responses!

My math tells me that a 5-gallon bucket would hold .668 cu.ft. of air.  Assuming that a 25 lb. bag of Black Kow fills a bucket that size, then a 50 lb. bag should fill it twice giving a volume of 1.3 cubic feet.  I will open my bags this weekend and measure how many buckets full each makes and report back.
