Table Top Height
If this is posted in the wrong place, I hope someone will move it where it belongs. I looked but did not find a board for table top SFGs. Maybe we could get one added and aggregate all TT topics here, eh?
Work in progressing on my SFGs. I got the 2' x 7' box built today and should have it filled with MM by this time next week. It will be a TT just outside my kitchen door and will be planted with herbs. The height of this bed is determined by an existing bench and brick wall.
In the process of building the herb garden bed, it occurred to me that with little more effort and expense I can make my back yard beds TT beds. The cost of 2x4s and the bracing under the hardware cloth are the only additional expense. I have not been able to find anything here or in the ANSFG that addresses the most desirable height for TTs. Has anyone been through this before who has advice to share?
TIA

Re: Table Top Height
Most modern kitchen counter tops are 36 inches tall. I always suggest that folks determine if that is a comfortable height for them to work at, and then adjust from there.
Most of my TTs are 36 inches. I made some at 28-30 with the idea that I would grow broccoli and cauliflower in them (they're taller plants). I don't like the height; I have to bend over awkwardly to plant, weed, etc.
I have 3 that have ended up around 40-41, and they are turning out to be my favorite height. If I build anymore TTs, they will be that height.
For reference, I'm 5'11".

Thank you sanderson and boffer!
I think I'll start at about 40". I can always cut some off the legs if I find that is too tall for me.

Re: Table Top Height
I have two sets of TTs. One set is hip high and the other is upper waist high. I prefer the taller, less stress on the back.

Workbench
Table Top Garden. A Woodworker's Workbench height should be 4" below the waist. Maybe the garden box should be about the same. This would put the bottom of the box 10" below the waist. Not sure where to start? Your belly button is about 1" below your waist. None of these are exact. They are a place to start, though. Do what is comfortable for you.
