Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
Was at the big orange box yesterday & found the old-fashioned type of Christmas lights. Strings of 25. About $7.00 or so...
Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
Do you mean the bigger bulbs in colors that get hotter than the little mini-lights?? Does orange box refer to HD? That's what I would like for the little hot house (on timers).
Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
Colors & white. The regular incandescent-types like we grew up with. I saw a couple of different item #s, but not sure of the differences. I suppose one could be larger than the other...
Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
Home Depot - Home Accents Holiday was the band name that I purchased. 25 lights per string. Bulb size is C9 Lights. These are the larger size bulbs that used to be put outside. They had C7 lights in stock also which are a little smaller that most people used to put on the tree (not the little ity bity lights). Color is clear. They may have had different colors but I wanted clear and was so happy to see these that I just grabbed them and never thought about color. The box did not say incandescent but there was a sign over this display that said incandescent. SKU for my box says 351 552. Model W11C0055. The little bar code on the box says 3053903019. Don't forget replacement bulbs. Who knows when we would be able to purchase these again.

They must be on sale because I paid twice that amount.

Those babies do get warm. I have a real tree for Christmas, and I used those C9s one year and it noticeably dried the tree out, a bit scary actually. Perfect for the warming of a greenhouse though! I have those somewhere....mine are colored. Hmmmm

Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
got my portable hoop house up for the winter. Have some plants growing. testing it out on 2 beds. 12 x 12ft hoop house . here the journey. about three days approx 8 hrs. it probably could be done in 5, if you know what you're doing.
after bending the hoops, I inserted my first hoop with the help of my brother.

hoopbender on top of those IBC tote. front viewed

all hoops in. beginning to placed the multi angle holders to add foundation vents for dispersing the heat when closed

foundation vents in and seem to be working. this is my 3rd year using them.

Plastic on hoops. PVC weight added to hold down the plastic that is attached to the swing door. this prevent the wind from coming in.

this a hook where the tip was straighten out so I could attached it to the front and back hoop. This supports the swing door when they are open.

The foundation vents seem to be working well. this is it open.

it rain last night and it is 48 degrees. the vents almost closed.

Looking good Has. Let us know how it works. Is that 3/4 inch EMT you used to make the hoops. And are the EMT hoops made from 10 feet long EMT.?

Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
Did you use glue or clear tape to seal around the vent? What type? I can't quite tell from the photos. Thanks
Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
hoops are 10 ft. use the hoop bender to make 8-10 ft pieces. the base is 12 ft long on from, sides and back. I attached the hoops at o ft, 4 ft, 8ft and 12 ft which is the end. the are connected at the top with perlins. Here's the site where I got the base kit and instruction. The owners are very helpful and patience.

Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
I decided to add a support pole to guarantee the doors don't blow open since I added the support hooks for holding the swing doors open when I want them open. It was simple to make, but had to put two pieces together to form it. This way it would give a little around the swing doors. a solid piece pole was two rigid. the swing door locking clamp is sufficient, but it just gives me more peace of mind having that cross bar pole in place.
The foundation vents are working well. We had a cold spell with some snow sunday night.

Re: The Winter Journey and greenhouse plastic
Hi Has55! Glad to see you're okay after the storms!
I got lights at HD for 1/2 off as well... Only 4 boxes to start...
Your garden looks great - even with some light snow on the ground. And that orange cauli!!!! Wow!

Very colorful, Has! And you are growing despite the cold! I have seen the colorful cauli at the store but never tasted it. Does it taste like the white kind?
