What do you use to secure 4 mil plastic to 1/2" PVC or electrical conduit? I am in the process of making PVC frames as winter and/or rain covers for my small boxes (the largest is 2' x 4'). I do NOT want to use ugly duct tape like I used this spring as the boxes are in the landscaped backyard.

Someone wrote that they used large black binder clips, which is okay with me. But there must be other garden clip products that you guys use that can be taken off and on daily without being harsh on the plastic sheeting. Any brand names, suggestions welcomed.

Home depot has squeeze clips (heavy duty) very cheap (1$) vs. 4$ at the hardware store. You can also buy 3/4" pvc, cut in 3" sections and cut a grove almost to half (I used tin snips ) and pop over the 1/2 inch and plastic

Here is a commercial source for the garden clips johnp is making from PVC. http://www.territorialseed.com/product/1657 I saw them also at my hardware store last spring. I made some by splitting one side of irrigation poly pipe.

I'll check out HD. I assume they are $1 each.

I bookmarked the Territorial clip site.

Thanks

I have seen folks buy PVC pipe one size larger than the hoop rib. Then they cut them in sections a few inches long then slice the sections up the side. They slide right onto the rib.

Amazon carries them. Search for PVC pipe clips, IIRC. A few gardening places have them.

I use homemade poly clips and plastic spring clamps. I find the spring clamps to be more versatile, and definitely more convenient if I'm opening and closing up a hoop house every day.

Wal-Mart has a package of 16 clamps (5 different sizes) for $8. When I bought my first package, I didn't think the smallest or largest sizes would be useful, but they've been quite handy for various things in the garden.

Don't forget to try the dollar store. I'm holding my row cover down with big plastic clips I got from there, six for a dollar.

They also occasionally have garden-specific stuff, like twine or fertilizer sticks or staples for holding down row cover, so dollar stores are always worth a quick check if you're in the vicinity and have a few minutes. I especially like all their baskets.

I now have lots of suggestions. Growing Your Greens suggested checking out the dollar stores in the fall for scoring gardening stuff.
