How much netting do I need?
Howdy SFG'ers! I'm still in the planning process of my garden. I have one bed up and running but I'm planning my vine box right now. I'm putting in a 4'x8' box that is emulating Mel's design with the electrical conduit for supports. I'm going to have the tower spanning the whole 8 foot length of the box on one side as well as 4 feet on the adjacent side. So that is 12 feet length of netting. I guess my MAIN question is how tall is the tower that is depicted in the book and how much netting do I need from mel's site to construct my box? He sells it in 4' wide by any length at .60 foot. There are other places that sell it too.
I basically need to know two things:
1) how tall is the tower he has in his book
2) how much netting for the above 4'x8' box with an L shaped netting running continuously
Thanks,
Maya
PS. I just purchased a 5'x15' roll. I'm thinking Mel's tower is about 6' high.

Re: How much netting do I need?
His trellis's that are pictured in the book, along with the instructions are 5 feet. Conduit is sold in 10 foot lengths. Mine actually are less than 5 feet because the garden soil that I worked last year is very soft, and my conduit drove into the mud along with the rebar. (Next year I'm buying 24 inch lengths of conduit, versus 18, or 12 or whatever it is I got....just not enough) The standard bag of trellis netting is 5x15 and will work for 3, 4x4 beds, which is what I've got going on. I have one net up on the trellis so far, and it's about a square or two too long for me because of my soft dirt issue. Hope that helps.
Oh, and I DO know Mel made much higher trellis's, but the "standard" height for the conduit trellis is 5 feet.

Yep Silverbug, that helps. I think you meant 24" rebar instead of conduit for longer length. I already order the 5'x15' bag of trellis netting last night. It will work for the 4'x8' L shape of the box.
Thanks,
Maya
