Neglected Beds - What are best varieties Kale and Garlic to plant in Middle South?
Hey everyone. Due to circumstances beyond my control, for the last six weeks, my beds received only sporadic watering and zero pest control (picking off caterpillars, etc). However, many of my plants are still doing well! Of course many were lost also.
Be that as it may, I want to plant Kale and Garlic and I'd like to know which varieties my fellow Georgians and other Middle South folks have/will plant(ed) for fall. Hope everyone got some nice summer crops. My Black Krim tomatoes still produced some nice fruit (despite neglect). They are the best tomatoes I've ever had... sweet as sugar!!

My favorite fall Kale is Winterbor. The is also a Redbor that is a great edible ornamental. Looks great with pansys, also edible. I have planted it for the last 2 fall/winter gardens and with a little protection, it overwintered to become one of my first spring greens. Try Southern Seed Exposure for garlic suitable for southern gardens.

PS. I believe I remember seeing a new version of winterbor in a seed catalogue, just can't remember what it was called or where.

Hi Kay. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction for kale and garlic. I actually have a Southern Seed Exposure catalog. Thanks again. You rock!
