Finally filled in my Trellis ( see photo)

Halfway up the rear trellis is a temporary roll of shade cloth and black plastic for instant use if the weather turns bad. We get big hail here and heavy rain sometimes, I'll move it to the top once the plants get more established.

Green Caterpillar poop and damage. I think I got most of them (20)
with twizers and the nest with web. Are these a common moth that eats some lettuce?

This was one of the caterpillar that did the damage. Can anyone tell me if it's a common one and how to deal with it other than physical removal? They were quick to infest and I would hate to lose other plants. Thanks.

Yep, that's him. Removed more of them again today by hand, they are active high on the plant mostly in the morning, but I'm finding them hiding down low as well. A few more goes at them with my trusty tweezers and should have eliminated them.

Found out what was munching on my new Broccoli seedlings, it's a Little bright green bug similar to a ladybug walking around on the MM. Little bugga ate 9 shoots in one day, so had to replant my seeds, covered this time till 2-3" high.

Okay, I'm stumped. Looks like a ladybird but there are no spots on the rigid fore wings. Please post or PM if you find out what it is. And, is it a good guy or bad guy.

Looking at your updated pictures helped me realize why we refer to y'all as being "down under." Just kidding, it wasn't too much trouble to turn this computer upside down to view your benches from the correct angle. Worth the effort, I'm here to tell 'ya. Nonna

Just out of interest, those 3 - 4x4 boxes are consuming 10 Gallons ( 50 Lts ) of water per day total, hardly ever see any drip out of the drain holes ( no they're not blocked) so these are thirsty times with temps around 77-100 most days.

Rambo, Mulch helps keep the MM moist. Reduces the loss from evaporation. I use fresh wood chips, others use straw (not hay), shredded bark, pine needles, etc. I take it that you haven't even hit the full blast of summer. sunny

Thanks Sanderson, I thought about mulch but I like to keep an eye on what walks around on top of my MM and digs up my seeds etc. I may try it in one box after harvest.

I've learned a lot about plant placement from my first year, things I thought should go at the back need to go to the front etc. Plus I'm putting all leafy greens in the one box next time.

Some thing's I thought would climb didn't, just chased the sun, so they can go to the front, fall down and grow around the box.

Nope, full blast of summer still to come. bounce

Oh, Rambo, what a treat to live vicariously through your summer while we're putting most of our beds "to bed" here in Oregon. Ripe tomatoes just a memory, peppers...gone, eggplant (aborigines) merely a memory or expensive at grocery store. Keep us stoked for next year with your summer posts, won't you? Nonna

I'm not sure what he is, he is rather cute and fearless, just appeared one day. He potters around my feet when I'm working on a box. That's a bit of yellow patty pan squash he's eating that I threw to him, probably regret doing that if I catch him pecking at the ones on the vines.
