Premade MM (Gro-well) study
I seems the prior topic has been locked for some reason, so here is a new thread.
the old thread is here:
https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t16436-premade-mm-grow-well-socal-vs-mg-potting-mix
So, Gro-well has offered a refund for my 9 bags I bought at HD. Based on the info they gave me, the mix was possibly lacking in fertilizer. This would explain both the initial stunting of the plants, and the fact they recovered after copious amounts of liquid fertilizer..
Gro-well suggested I go to Lowes, and buy their brand in the 32 qt bag. It was not on the Lowes website, and very hard to find. What was there was very dirty and degraded, at least a year old.
So, my plan is, with my new Lowes buckets, and three tomatoes:
One plant in one bucket with existing mix, the same my other tomatoes are living in.
One plant in another bucket with the defective HD MM, but saturated with fertilizer
One plant in the Lowes MM.
I'll report back in a few weeks!

Thanks for the info. Are you saying Lowes has a version of MM different from HD? Please let us know how your experiments progress.. thanks!

Re: Premade MM (Gro-well) study
If my feeble memory serves me, I think the other thread was locked because the topic had already been well discussed.
Homemade compost in homemade MM is recommended because YOU can control the all ingredients.
The following highly recommended 7-page topic can be accessed by going to the Home Page to the Hover button: It is the first topic. "Mel's Mix, the heart and soul of SFG"

Re: Premade MM (Gro-well) study
The Lowes material should be the same as the HD, according to Gro-well, but in a different, smaller bag. In this case, it is a bit older thatn the HD Material, hopefully dates before the problem started.
Eventually, I will probably make my own mix, thanks for the thread link.

OK....gotcha. We bought all of ours from Lowe's the first time around. The second time, it was delivered to us...so I don't know if it was "Lowe's" or "Home Depot". Good luck!!
