Planting for fall
Several weeks ago I planted beets, kale, carrots and lettuce for fall harvesting. Everything has come up nicely except the kale. I planted six squares and I only have three tiny, tiny plants up as of yesterday. At this rate they will be ready by Christmas. I did recharge all the squares with new compost so I don't think that is the problem. Maybe it's to hot (mid 90's). Anyone have a solution?

Re: Planting for fall
It looks like it's been too hot for optimum germination of the kale, try sowing indoors or a shaded area and then transplanting into the garden.
May want to try some new seed. Also, just as a point of info, I plant one plant per square, even the dwarf type of kale.

Thanks for the nice chart. I copied to Word, enlarged to full page for ease of reading, and printed for my binder.

Oh dear. I can't even talk about this! I pushed myself to get things going a little too early. At least I only planted a few beds.

Thanks for the info- great chart. I plant two or three and thin to one and transplant the rest. I will plant some indoors today.

Re: Planting for fall
I've kinda thought if I planted early and didn't work I could always plant later on.
However, my thoughts now are maybe the early plant might take and not do as well as if planted later..
