Coastal and Tropical Planting Dates (too early for fall?)

Is there a planting chart for this region? I was going by the Univ. of S.C. chart because they seemed to have dates that would work and they seem more in tune with Coastal/Tropical than UGA is (I am in coastal GA). Almost everything I see says August, so I planted a bunch this weekend (Broc, caul, pole beans, winter squash, collards, kale, beets, carrots and more) and then I ran into a horticulturist who said I was too early and that the bugs would get everything. Maybe I will get lucky? The weather is definitely milder than usual this week! Thoughts? I planted 4 out of 9 beds (most of which are new and in a sunnier spot!) because I still have peppers, eggplant and tomatoes coming (although the tomatoes don't seem to want to set fruit anymore so I may have missed the mark on these last few that I planted late after all the rain. I have them under bird netting so the seeds don't get stolen and I heard someone say that tuille might work to keep the bugs out while they are young? Each bed is small enough that I can cover it. Shade cloth? Or am I doomed and will have to start all over again in a month?

Yes, tulle covering until the bugs stop and then plastic or frost blankets when needed should save your planting.

Thank you! I will try to find some. Not much fear of frost here on south Georgia barrier island (or at least not often and not for months and months from now!). I am usually ready for a good chilling about this time of year.

Thanks! The USDA recently upped us to a 9A, from 8B. There is always a little confusion when I visit the various charts. I think the one I was using was still the 8B. Ah well. I am already seeing sprouts, so cross your fingers for me please and thanks for the help. I have a lot to learn about sq foot! I am starting a vermicomposting station to help with the compost selection.

Thanks for the links, TX Gramma. I had seen some of those, but not all. I used the Home Planting Chart to determine my dates, but I guess those were for further north. I think our frost date here is around December. 

The bugs did find some of my seedlings, mostly beans, and those were not in a raised bed. Although most of my beds are raised, I am also trying to convert some of the landscaped areas around my house to vegetables (permaculture?). Anyway, this particular area is in front of a low picket fence next to my drive. I planted pole beans and squash to run up the fence and added some cute metal ornamental trellis type pieces for good climbing. I planted some bush beans in the middle and then some summer savory as the short bed plant. I went out tonight to find the culprits and it was pill bugs (roly polys). They were there by the hundreds in every size and were having a serious feast on the seedlings. Some were deep in the soil at the base of the seedlings, eating them before they made it to the surface and the rest were climbing and eating the leaves completely.
