Nice! Last year I sliced and spiced peaches and froze them a food service film lined pie tin. After the filling froze I put it into a zip like freezer bag. Mid winter peach pie was so easy!walshevak wrote:froze, jellied, jammed, honey spiced, and rum spirited from 2 bushels this past week. Ate half a dozen and have 4 left to nibble on.

Those chops and peaches look awesome camp, but I'm holding out for some homemade peach cobbler. Already made a date with my wife to go to the farmer's market Friday.

That reminds me....the peaches on my dwarf Red Haven were nearly ripe the other day. I've got to go picking. Thanks for the reminder.

My first 7 peaches, Red Havens, along with 3 Fuji apples and 1 Honey Crisp that are about ready so far. I love having dwarf fruit trees along the driveway.

Re: It's Peach Season!
If you have one that has red skins, then the color will pretty much tell you. Press the peach with your thumb and if the peach feels a little soft, its ready. An unripe peach will feel hard like a baseball.
To harvest, turn the peach around and round so it breaks off easily.
If its not quite ripe, you can let them sit in a paper bag for 2-3 days and they will be.

Re: It's Peach Season!
My little peach tree (5' dwarf Early Elberta) is bending from the weight of this years crop. This is only its second season and I counted just over fifty peaches. I can't believe it! I've picked a couple, they are delicious but just not sweet enough yet. It's soooo hard to be patient for peaches. Peach pie is yummy, I love the idea of freezing the filling camprn, but I'm drooling for Peach Shortcake.
My Gravenstein Apple is doing really nicely in its second season as well. It had about 80 apples on it before I started picking them 2 weeks ago. I just can't get over how much these little trees produce!

lyndeeloo.....Great lookin' trees. They are terrific for taking up such little space and the ease of harvesting the smaller trees. Fruits are the same size as any normal tree. Dwarfs are wonderful for any yard space.

Lyndeeloo, Very nice looking trees and fruits. I'm curious as to the make and size of containers and did you use MM as the planting medium? Thanks

OK, peach growers in the northern climes (zone 5 or colder) what are, in your opinion, the go to varieties of dwarf peach trees and do they require another tree?

Re: It's Peach Season!
Thank you sanderson. I purchased these trees in early spring of 2011 and planted them directly in the soil in my backyard. I added a small amount of peat moss and composted cow manure to each hole I dug and mixed it with the soil before putting the trees in. I was not familiar with MM at the time.sanderson wrote:Lyndeeloo, Very nice looking trees and fruits. I'm curious as to the make and size of containers and did you use MM as the planting medium? Re: It's Peach Season!
Besides admiring your beautiful fruit I couldn't help notice the bird netting. Do you know how to use the stuff without getting personally tangled up in it? I'm not good with the stuff.
I just spent 5 minutes with scissors cutting the netting from a stuck upside down sparrow that was just frantically chirping and gasping. When it ran out of smoke then I was able to cut him out of a tangled mess. It was nice to see him finally fly off.
I wish some manufacturer would make a re usable screening of some some sort instead.
