Bush beans, shape question..
There aren't suppose to be silly questions in gardening but this should qualify--
Does anyone know why my KY bush beans often grow in the shape of the letter C ??
Doggone it, this silly ol gal would rather her beans be straight!

I vaguely recollect that beans grow like that when there is insufficient water.
Re: Bush beans, shape question..
ours seem to do that when that plant/vine is starting to slow down in producing
also a plant that doesn't look so healthy will do the same thing

Re: Bush beans, shape question..
I typically water everyday depending on conditions, either lightly or more. I didn't spray for whatever is putting holes in the leaves plus the very top leaves on a bunch of plants get real dark then crunchy. I planted too many beans and I'm not being a good bean Mom so I just tear off the ugly leaves and keep right on harvesting my 'C" shaped beans.
I don't see bugs but does this sound like bugs and some disease I suppose? Probably all common stuff I still need to learn about!

I see that when something causes a small scar to form on one edge of the new baby bean. Like when a bug takes a nibble or hail hits or wind rubs it against a trellis. Still tasty.

Ok thanks and Yes, you're right Turan, still tasty. I fidget with cutting curly beans with my lovely hand arthritis. The straight beans work nice simply hold a bunch and cut with one swift slice. At least the pole beans are coming soon and seem to be all straight.
