Pesties on cucumber and pole bean leaves
Anyone have an idea what these critters are on my friends cucumber and pole bean leaves? (And how to get rid of them, of course!) Thanks!

Did you check with the Extension Service or bugguide.net yet? I can not see anything but black spots and webbing.

We've been looking in all our books & on line. Those black things are not spots, but some kid of bug or such.

mgj.....could it be "droppings" from a caterpillar/bug? Kinda hard to tell from the pic. Maybe look on the leaves ABOVE the leaves with the black things, and see if something above is "dropping" stuff??

Looks a little like the tiny things that are impossible to get out of my cucumber flowers (and kill them by the score).

Re: Pesties on cucumber and pole bean leaves
That looks like what was on a few of my carrot leaves. I thought they were aphids at first, but then I noticed some silk webbing. When I was able to get a good look, it was a small green caterpillar and the black spots were it's poop. I just clipped off the infested bits and dunked them into my ever-handy jar of soapy water. I haven't been able to ID it yet, but have your friend go out with a magnifying glass & take a closer look. It might be the same critter.
