Protecting the Sugar Anns
I'd love to get some sugar ann snap peas in and harvested before the frost comes, but I'm nervous about the heat. Anything goes this time of year in CO and that goes for early fall. Is there a way I can protect the seeds/plants when it gets too warm?

Keep them watered,. covered from the hot sun.
I just planted seeds for my fall crop, they will go into my newly made cold frame.
They are so delicious, wife and I cant get them to the kitchen, we eat all we pick.

Thanks Lyndeelo
I put it together last fall with lots of wood I had hanging around for 30 + years.
One never knows when something will be needed.
4 x 7 and 9 inches of Mel's Mix, should do me well as I can raise the top to any height needed.
Dontcha just love this forum ???

Sadly I suffer from a similar affliction. Now all I need is some improved carpentry skills (and a few power tools) and I too could have a snazzy cold frame.jimmy cee wrote:... lots of wood I had hanging around for 30 + years.

This is a great way to exchange ideas and information. Its really nice to have a place where people are excited, in my case obsessed, about gardening and willing to share their ideas and experiences.
I know we are supposed to be talking about Sugar Anns, but I really do love that cold frame. Now I'm going to have to figure out a way to build a portable one on top of one section of my SFG. I've always wanted a cold frame and just never got to it. One more project to add to the list!
I've also been admiring the cattle panel/concrete reinforcement panel trellises, so that will be another project. All my vines have already topped the EMT tubing supports I made. Underestimated the Veggies once again!
Back to the topic... I've never grown peas, never acquired the taste for them fresh. I've been a canned peas kind of girl. Maybe I need to grow some next year to see if I can acquire the taste.

To me, it's the pods that make the pea. I especially love the Chinese snow peas that you sometimes get in a stir fry, with the tender but still crunchy pods. They're great raw or cooked.

When our sugar peas are ready, my wife and I go out to pick em...LOL...what a joke that is...LOL
I think for every ten we eat 1 goes in the pot, then we sit on our deck and finish the pot
with nothing left to take inside.
Grow them you'll love em

Re: Protecting the Sugar Anns
This is my first year growing peas and just when they started to blossom and produce we got 3 days of 90 degree heat. That stoped them. My growing season is so short that I needed to plant my fall peas in order to get a crop from them before we freeze. The master gardeners here recommended using a shade cloth to protect the peas from the sun. That is my two sense.

Re: Protecting the Sugar Anns
Jimmy cee, I never liked raw peas, the thawed peas from a freezer bag from the grocery. Than I tried a pod right off the vine. I'm hooked!
Re: Protecting the Sugar Anns
