Hi,

I just got my NEW Square Foot Gardening book, and am excited to start! I first heard about Square Foot Gardening a few years ago, but planted my garden the traditional way on the advice of my Dad. This way seems to make so much sense, and is easier! I am planning on building my boxes tomorrow, and get my potatoes, lettuce, carrots, spinach and onions in the ground.

Thanks Guys!

I got the spinach, lettuce, beets, peas, and turnips planted, still need to do the potatoes, parsnips, carrots, and onions, but didn't get a deep bed made yet for those.

I've also been transplanting my tomato and basils seedlings that are growing inside to bigger containers...also need to get my squash and pumpkins seeds started by this weekend, as well as more beds made.

I'm having a hard time finding the big bags of vermiculite. I got 3 2 cubic foot bags at Paris Farmer's Union, but that's all they had, so I'm trying to find more. I'm thinking of selling my old tiller to pay for as more vermiculite, LOL. It's pretty expensive!

This is going to be a lot of fun!

Hello from Maine Empty Maine Vermiculite

Post  WardinWake 4/29/2010, 5:31 pm

Howdy:

You do not say where in Maine you are located so it is difficult to help. If you go to Profile and edit it you can add your town so others can better help you. Currently in the Vermiculite Data Base you will find vermiculite listed in the following cities, Westrockport, Gray, and Manchester. Also there is a listing for "various". If you locate the vermiculite please enter the info in the vermiculite data base.

God Bless, Ward.

Ward,

I live in Windham about 5 miles west of Portland. I found three 2 cubic foot bags at Paris Farmer's Union, and will get more there, even if I have to drive further to the other towns they're in. I checked out the database, and found Griffin's Greenhouse supply in Gray, which is very close, but their website states they only ship wholesale, but I'm still going to call and see if they'll see me some bags, because their price is soooo much better than I paid at Paris Farmer's Union. I will definitely keep trying to find other resources, and will share any information that I find.

Thanks!

Cindy
