A lot of rain, a lot of worry
I'm probably over-reacting.......I mean, our area here in se MN is in a 2" rainfall deficit, so I know the farmers are happy right now, but I am worried. I keep thinking I should run out and cover my poor seedlings. Actually, I dont' think we've recieved a ton of rain or anything - but I'm freaking out. My seeds won't drown, right? I feel so silly even asking such a quesion, but yikes.....my little greens!

Re: A lot of rain, a lot of worry
Our plants really do become our babies, don't they? If it is really pouring for a long time (like 6 - 8" in a couple of days), you might experience some wash out, but that will be fairly rare. Normal rains will soak right through and the plants will rejoice. Don't panic if a few get bent down by the rain -- just gently upright them again. I use chopsticks and bamboo skewers sometimes to help hold plants upright that have been beaten down by the rain -- works great and is only needed for a day or two.

Are you still getting rain down there new2this?? We only got 1/2 an inch and it was done by 1pm. How are your seedlings doing? I'm sure they are fine!

Re: A lot of rain, a lot of worry
The rain stopped sunday, and I didnt' even catch how much we got.....not too much though. I was worried over nothing ( ) and all is well!
My seedlings loved it! The peas really popped, and the spinach seemed to love it too!
And oh the strawberries are coming in strong now...I planted bare root with no growth on top, and now they look like strawberries! Beautiful little leaves (2 to 4 per plant) are already coming in......I love this.
More rain in the forecast...today and then friday thru the weekend (but that's far enough out to change)
Have a good day.
