Picked some corn! Empty Picked some corn!

I picked the first of several beds of corn this am.   About 60 ears, most were 1/2 ears. Not much for a 3 x 8 bed, planted 4 per square. I picked 5 ears and cooked on the weekend and it was not very tasty, very little flavor. It is Bi-licious Hybrid by Burpee. I will let them know too.
I guess it is ok, but reminds me of some I got in the freezer section of store.
It only had 1 ear per stalk, and most was not pollinated. I tried to do the pollinating some, and the pollen was not fine, it was in about a 1/4 in. long, big pieces. We've had wind but very few bees this yr.
It looks like it's a hybrid with Country Gentleman(shoe peg corn) and something else.  It shows in the rows not being straight or non-exsistant.

I have a bed of Country Gentleman that is starting to tassel, hope it is tasty.
I also have some Silver Queen that will tassel in a few weeks. I've had Silver Queen that has pollenated and made full ears and the wind had laid it all down.

Question: Will chickens eat corn stalks? I know horses will, but I don't have a horse. I don't think chopping corn stalks is on my list of things to do this yr.

How about just breaking in enough to throw into the compost pile?? It's a wonderful way to keep it aerated and breaks down very nicely.

They Sure look nice
It never ceases to amaze me the very wide variation in crops that are ready on this forum, my corn is only a few inches high.
Hope the next set is better tasting
