Squash Varieties/Opinons
Squash (both summer and winter) seems to be my Achilles heel. For the past few years I have planted several varieties and I can count, on two hands, the number of squash I have produced.
This year I planted Tatume, Mongogo du Guatemala, and Lebanese White Bush Marrow as my summer varieties. I also have some Shamrock, Queensland Blue, and Burgess Buttercup that I planted since I did not sell them.
The summer varieties are all about to flower! I have my finger's crossed.

I planted Tatume this year and it was growing great, but all of a sudden has basically stopped. I think one vine was growing about 4 inches a day...was. I've gotten 2 squash from it so far. Now what I do have blossoming are all males.
I will cross my fingers for you!

I am not a really hot climate, but I have Australian Butter squash and Potamarron both flowering, only females so far.
Really looking forward to this, I tried last year but got started too late, and the first frost came before they ripened, so this year I am a whole month ahead.

Re: Squash Varieties/Opinons
Thus far I have grown vicariously through my grandparents. They live in northern Ohio and have always grown lots of squash. I send them about 15-20 packets of heirloom squash seeds every year.

Squash I have tried and failed with: Yellow Crookneck, Yellow Straight Neck, White Pattypan, Yellow Pattypan, Lebanese White Bush Marrow, Thai Pumpkin, Sugar Pie Pumpkin, Delicata, and Thelma Sanders Sweet Potato.
Maybe this year will be different!

Last year my father in law grew tons of yellow crook neck and I had the best luck with spaghetti squash, I grew 2 different types and they really thrived. I also grew butternut and zucchini and neither of them really took off, I think I got one of each from the plants!

The year I grew Delicata, the plants got pretty big, but I only got 1.5 squash. Once the SVB's found them, I was out of luck.

I have delicata growing this year. I have 3 vines and they are loaded. At least a dozen growing, most already bigger than I had before. The last 2 yrs I tried using a packet from Ferry Morris and they were not hardy nor prolific - got only a couple of squash. This time I bought honeyboat and another variety that escapes me at the moment.
A 4th vine from one of the packets is a surprise - Jack be little pumpkins and there is probably at least a dozen on that vine.

thanks for the info. I've had trouble with a few of the Ferry Morse germinating...some great and others with very few...weird.
