Re: What to plant in June So Cal
Middle of June and my cucumbers are finally taking off. I used soil blocks for the first time starting them back in end of April. They grew really slow, I think they were getting too much shade. Roughly around the 1st of June I transplanted them into their final containers. They didn't do much for the last two weeks, but now they seem to have hit their stride where they are adding a couple inches and a hand sized leaf daily.
The melons seem to be responding the same way, about a two or three lag after planting the soil block to set up and them vooooooooommmmmmmmmm. :-)
My tomato plant survivor is insane. And something has found it. half eaten toms everywhere.
bush beans are spent, time to replant.
Spent part of last weekend, tilling a large chunk of the yard. It was the area we had a couple problem trees remove. I tilled because the area was covered in thigh deep bindweed and mint. It smelled so good, but was hoping the tilling will help all the roots spend themselves faster and reduce the amount of future weeding I'll need to do.

Southern CA has different microclimates, from June Gloom to "it's really hot". Here are some sample Master Gardeners vegetable planting guides. There are plenty of crops to plant or direct sow. Some of you can even overwinter summer crops like peppers and tomatoes. Lucky you!!

San Diego County has lovely coastal and hot inland microclimates. Success in planting depends on determining your microclimate. https://www.mastergardenersd.org/downloads/VegetablePlantingGuide.pdf
