Red tree icon disappeared
The little "red tree" to the left of the topics disappears after reading a topic. There is usually a "green tree", and it turns red after reading. Now..it's just a blank area. Is anyone else seeing this?

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
really? If you click on "posts since your last visit", a list comes up, at least on my computer it does. The list has little "trees" to the left of it. Green tree indicates you haven't read the topic, red indicates you have...now...I only have green trees and "blank spaces"...weird......If you hover over where the red tree should be..it says "no new posts".

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
I didn't even know that Posts Since Your Last Visit was there. But I just saw it now, so clicked on it and it says "No topics or posts met your search criteria". Do you have to 'watch' a topic to have it be in there?

Holy moly, there's a whole nother side to this forum!
OK, I 'watched' this topic, then went to Post Since... but there's a little red circle, not a tree.
Do you at least have a circle?

Good observation, SG. You're correct about how it works, and it is missing in action. This is a job for Superman I mean Rooster!
SG, something else very obvious disappeared from the index page a while back, did you notice? It was a visual item, not functional like the trees.
(I thought the red and green things were leaves! )

Honestly Boffer, I normally just use the "view posts since last visit" tab...so I can't say I did notice But now, you've made me wonder! What is it??

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
There have been similar troubles for months.... I know that Rooster is aware about past issues but not sure what all the current trouble with the icons and such ... Have you noticed any other effects on the forum... missing texts or posts or anything like that>
Maybe the forum software is having an upgrade.......
knowing the answers are above my payscale...
As long as it doesn't affect the threads themselves, I've no worries.
I typically just look at the latest topics or check the unanswered threads.

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
I had to find an older picture to show you; of course I can never find them when I want one!
The pic's not real clear, but you can see your red trees and the little green balls before the forum names. The original code is still intact, but for some reason the balls started displaying differently, if at all, on different browsers.
All I can say is

I think for some reason the code for that icon is either missing or corrupted or whatever. It's not showing up in the key at the bottom of the main page either. I'm using Chrome

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
The green dots have been an issue for some time now. There was also some problems up in the green menu bar a month or two ago. That's also when the green dots started acting up. I was able to fix the green menu items, and have yet to track down the green dot issue. Now the trees. I'm still showing some trees on Chrome. None on IE. Green dots on neither. Somehow, for me Firefox is fully intact.

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
I just upgraded FF; no leaves before or after.
I just discovered that the flat top nubbins on the left occur when I zoom out on the browser window.
CC, the emoticons are hiding in plain sight!

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
I don't know why they are behaving the way they are, but here's a solution that will work, although you'll hate me for it. It will be tedious.
Here's a slightly different color green ball; replace the existing green ball links with it. Try replacing just one for inspiration.

No red tree for me Rooster. Only green until read and then no tree at all. I use Firefox.

Oh no!
Somebody wanted a hair pulling emoticon on another thread, and Rooster needs it for sure!

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
I'm thinking for those not seeing the trees, a refresh and cleanup may be in order. The trees should be good to go. (course so should the green balls)

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
Boffer, I still have the original green ball. Lol, I still have it in FF and at one time I did consider going and and replacing each link...as you can see that hasn't happened yet I do have a question for you boffer. Do you think it's possible that the green ball was on a different server and got removed? When I go through the panel, everything is matching up between the browsers. When I look at the forum tables, all links to the green ball are the same.

Re: Red tree icon disappeared
I saw the one green ball beside Introduce Yourself
When I grab the link for the original green ball, and try to view the image, all I get is a black display with a very very tiny dot in the middle. Like it could be 1 pixel square. I don't know if that means it has been moved.
