Ants nests
Please help. I have just gone to weed my brassica bed to find black ants everywhere. What do I do? P

Re: Ants nests
Heaven's at least they are not fire ants! I think I'd start out watering the ants a lots. Maybe get a spray bottle and put a little dish soap and water and spray away. Soap won't hurt your plants. Maybe someone will come up with a better solution.

Re: Ants nests
sprinkle some cornmeal around the bed where they are at....it worked great for us last year
*Cornmeal works because the ants are unable to digest the cornmeal and, as a result, they die *

Re: Ants nests
I just read this and maybe it will help.
Mix equal parts of baking soda and powdered sugar in a small bowl with a small amount of dry active yeast (usually 1/3 of the total volume). The sugar will draw the ants in, and the baking soda and yeast act as a poison, killing the ants upon consumption.

I also read on another site that if you find an ant hill, poke a hole or two into the hill quickly so the ants don't come after you and pour in some white vinegar. Step back and make sure no ants are on your shoes, legs or pants. The white vinegar is just the 5% you buy at any grocery store.

As far as I know icing sugar is powered sugar. I had read to mix icing sugar and the other ingredients, then I read from another person to use powered sugar. I didn't know it by the name icing sugar, lol!

I would think so because they take the cornmeal back to their nest and share and it expands once eaten and voila!
