I'd love to see pictures and videos (with instructions and parts lists if possible) of your watering systems. Show and tell time! smiles

I haven't put stuff together yet for this year but I will do so and get you some pics.

Bnoles made a PVC watering grid, that looked pretty interesting.

Coelli used porous tubing and set it up so the lines were fed from each end, thus evening out the watering along the length of the beds. I plan to try that this year.

Those are the ones I remember right off hand. I know I have seen lots more go by.

I'm getting ready to embark on converting a 350 gallon IBC tote into a rain barrel hooked up to a PVC drip for my lower bed and soaker hose for my taller beds. Just picked up all of the parts (I hope) at the hardware store today and waiting for a dry day to put it together (irony!). I will do my best to get pics and post it when I'm done. Smile

Here is a picture of my orphan tomatoes planted in various pots and all watered by a single soaker hose. It works best if the hose dips down to the soil in each pot. If needed I sometimes loop the hose in the pot and then on to the next.

drip systems - Pictures, Videos, Descriptions of Watering Systems Empty Rain barrel / Gravity fed grids

Post  B00kemdano 5/20/2013, 3:04 pm

This is my rain barrel with a "custom manifold." With it, I can water three TTs and one bed that's on the ground. I have a small herb table that's in the middle, and I didn't want to limbo under a water line for that one, so I still use the can. Laughing

My grid is 1/2" pvc. The water goes from the barrel to the grid via chunks of garden hose that are cut to length, and jammed on a barbed fitting. I like change, so I didn't glue my grids with the expectation that I'd reuse the parts for something else someday. The lengths of pvc between fittings each have two 1/16" holes drilled in them aimed into each square.

Here, you can see that my rain barrel is kind of high. I raised it above the soil level so it would still work even if the water level is low.

I added a splitter to my "custom manifold" (lowe's special 4 way splitter!) so I can still fill my watering can without unhooking anything.

When the barrel is full, I have enough pressure to run all four grids at once. If I turn a single one on full blast, the water shoots over the edge of the table! Razz

I also have 3 55 gallon drums set up together on another downspout as reserve. When my watering barrel runs dry, I fill it with buckets from the other 3. I'm still trying to figure out how to pump it uphill to the watering barrel without using electricity. Shocked
