question about opened bags of compost
I have an open bag of peat and an open bag of compost that have been sitting on the patio for about 2 weeks. I have them covered with a plastic bag (to keep rain and water out), but not tightly sealed. They are both mostly full. Well, one is about 2/3 full and the other one is about 3/4 full. They should still be fine to use, right? I can't imagine why they wouldn't be, but I thought I would ask anyway. Thanks bunches.

they should be fine...go ahead and use. If you had them covered well enough is it unlikely that any weed seeds blew in.

Cool. I was really more worried about the microbes. I also have a large pile I got from a local nursery. It's been under a tarp, sitting in a old garden bed. I figure, they have it out in the open at the nursery, it should be fine to use, and possibly even have some worms in it by now.

As long as there is no smell, or it smells earthy like good compost should, I wouldn't hesitate. If it stinks, I'd add it to the compost pile and use it later.
