SFG vs. Sewage Line Repair
Uhoh. I don't think Mel mentioned this one in his book!

Due to big snows, funerals, etc. I had not planted anything yet in those boxes, thank goodness. Ya think maybe I can get them to level off the ground in that area when their done???

Locates are generally free and do serve a great purpose. Lesson learned lol.

I am my gardens worst enemy.

One advantage of having everything on top of the ground, eh? We moved the soil from the affected boxes to those not affected, and then we removed the frames and weed cloth.
One heck of a way to rotate the Mel's Mix.
I am trying to be positive -- ha!

GWN, it's probably the same here as RoOsTeR that you can call a number at the city that will come out for free and locate utility lines. Here, it's called "Dig Right" and is a great service.

Re: SFG vs. Sewage Line Repair
Oh dear pattipan! These are your beds? I'm sorry, for some reason I just thought it was a random photo. Yes, luckily the beds shouldn't be too hard to move. I guess dealing with situations like this on a constant basis has made me more conscientious to always know or check what could be underground before placing things above ground. Sorry for your misfortune here.
Locates are generally a free service provided to locate anything underground (services).

My service area has a number where you dial the first 3 numbers plus the word OOPS. Kind of cute and easy to remember.

Re: SFG vs. Sewage Line Repair
In WV it's called Miss Utility. Our SFG has been in this spot for 4 years now. We placed it there because there is no other place, plus there was an in-ground garden there previously.
The three boxes and soil have already been moved/removed. The backhoe is threateningly close to the center ones. They said they could avoid them. I'm afraid to watch!

Re: SFG vs. Sewage Line Repair
OH.... I live in the country and we cannot garden over the septic field, but there is no reason not to put raised beds there... in fact... good reasons TO put them there.
I sure hope that this only interupts a few at the most.

Re: SFG vs. Sewage Line Repair
We live in downtown...albeit a small town. However, our house (church parsonage) is located between the bank drive-thru and the church. Not a lot of choice for garden location. The yard closest to the house is too shaded. Not sure we'll put those three boxes back where they were. Haven't thought that far ahead yet.
