ONIONS - Roots Rock Regg..onions Empty Roots Rock Regg..onions

Post  mapspringer 4/3/2013, 4:38 pm

I recently bought a set of Tex Sweet onions to stick in my workplace SFG, and when I asked the "kid" working the desk at the nursery if I should trim back the roots, he said, "No, I wouldn't." Well, I thought I remembered Mel telling me somewhere that you should trim the roots AND the tops slightly to promote growth. So, I trimmed the roots back to about 1/4 to 1/2" and stuck them in the mix. They're doing okay, but not showing a whole lot of new green growth (having been planted about 3 weeks ago.) What's the consensus on the question, "To trim or not to trim?"

thanks- Springer
