My SFG bed!
Well here it is! We got it done today, nothing planted yet, need to get some more plastic to cover tomorrow and soak the beds, but it's so pretty here's one of two

Looking Good!
Ive had the plastic up for about a week and planted peas today! Also took a flat of tomatos/peppers/eggplant to get a little sun. I brought them in after it started to get shaded. It was warm and toasty in there, Mels Mix felt warm too. Kinda nice to water them in with a watering can, not having to drag out the hose and then make sure all the water is out because it still freezes at night here. Gotta start thinking about squirrel, bunny protectors too.

Oh nice! I love the cinderblocks!
I soaked the mix today for about 20 minutes a box, the peat felt spongy so I hope I got it prepped well enough!

Here's mine, just for funs:
Eric ( FIL near Niagra Falls ) , used to fill the hollow blocks with well manured mother earth , grew flowers and salad stuff in them . He said it helped stop the blocks drawing and evaporating the moisture out of the beds . It was so hot in his small enclosed back garden during the summer months around 42 o C plus most days .

That is definitely one of the plans. I just needed a bit of a break from hauling sand, making Mel's Mix, etc.planetoid wrote:

That being said, I suppose I better get it done before it starts hitting the 100s, or else I'll really be hating life.

Re: My SFG bed!
Alright here we are less than a month later
Bed 1,
and Bed 2
Everything is taking off, I have a couple spots where the seeds slid around and I reseeded those yesterday. I just transplanted my tomatoes, so hopefully I did them right (buried most of the plant, it seemed wrong!). But they have a 90 day guarantee so if they do die, I'll try again
The soil has been retaining water well and the plastic I normally have over it has kept the beds nice and warm, but we're expecting 86 degrees today! So I uncovered them completely.

Tris.....Its looking very good.
Don't worry about the toms. If they get buried deep, they make stronger root systems and look for moisture deeper so don't dry out as much, either.
