SFG WH TT Cool Ideal

SFG WH TT Cool Ideal

I would for you to first view the video and add how to improve the SFG WH TT. I really like this ideal but need to see how to approach it to make one.
My first thoughts on it are
I would have used something else to line the bed with and added hole if I used what they used. Ideals here would help I thought about weed fabric, window screen but I think the ¼ in wire cloth might not work.
I think (being in a more non-rural area) I would dress the sides up – but for a small farm or rural area leave it like it is.

Appreciate your help on ways to improve and approaches for building it.

I agree that you need something other than plastic to line the beds - long lasting weed cloth would probably work.

The way the video has it set up, the whole area under the bed is not accessible. I could see it being used as a chicken coop or rabbit cage with wire gates on the ends.

Anyway, back to what I was adding to the post.
I am wanting to grow Asparagus in a WH SFG but do not want to use any wood as Asparagus can produce food for 20 + years I would have to replace the SFG wood frame about 4 + times and I understand the Asparagus doesn’t like to be moved much once it has set it’s roots deep. I do not want to use cinder blocks because of fly ash.
I came across these two ideals (basically the same) and was wondering if anyone has built one would share how it went and others ways to attach them together and any ideals if they would last 20 + years.

LTG both wriggly tin and aluminium will not last many years unless they are thick and heavily coated with zinc on the steel or double protective plastic as per the roof/ wall sheeting .

If I were even remotely tempted to use straight electro plated galvanized corrugated sheets ( wriggly tin ) or the stuff for building cladding that has sprayed on plastic baked on it I'd use industrial grade rubberized coating for steel that is painted on galv steel work that sits below ground to protect the metals or else your likely to see it develop holes fairly soon due to the slight acidic nature of the soil /MM or the alkaline. content if it contains limestone etc.

I'd do the same to the aluminium as well .

I'd paint all internal surfaces , the cut ends and also the area behind the wooden frames , for after all it's not going to be cheap constructing such beds and you'd want them to last fifteen years or more .

I think I can get some 1/4 inch thick steel sheets here would the steel work or are we running into soil corrosion again. I guess it would have to be welded together.

My concern with so much metal is that you might bake your plants. I am in zone 9B in So CA. I tried growing potatoes in a metal trashcan and the potatoes wilted before flowering that 1st time it hit 90* here.

I wouldn't use metal due to past experiences of trying to raise my beds, the wood fell part due to plenty of water and also getting frozen , even though it was anti rot treated and held together with lots of 4 inch long coach bolt screws.

I ended up using new impervious engineering bricks and mortar and had them built as keyed in units as in my avatar.

I think that if I didn't eat a lot of asparagus, I wouldn't grow it. I don't know about the TT, but I think I'd put the asparagus in a bed on the ground, then the edge of bed could be replaced without disturbing the asparagus roots.
