Anyone finding 5 types of compost in central MA??? Empty Anyone finding 5 types of compost in central MA???

Anyone have any success finding 5 different types of compost available rite now in central MA? It seems no one is in a hurry to get their garden supplies available for purchase rite now, you might think we just had a snowstorm or something.

... or that it's 18*F this morning, LOL. If your garden stores do not have the composts yet on display I suggest trying to round up other sources locally. Try, different types of farms in your area, diary farm, horse stables, goat or chicken farm. There are a few listings on your local
Craig's List.

jjc, I have found my compost at Agway, local garden centers and hydroponics stores. I reviewed some of the composts I found on my blog. This may give you an idea of what is available around here. A lot of the garden centers are not open yet but should be in a week or two. And in your impatience to get going, I would still avoid the stuff found at the big box stores. No

Thanks, I did just call a local greenhouse and they should be getting some in on Tues.

I am going to look up local Agways rite now thank you! Don't all the places that carry compost know that all the newbys at sfg's are rearin to go, like yesterday???

Tell me about it! I went to Agway in Littleton, MA a week or so ago. The woman looked at me like I was crazy when I told her what I wanted, considering we'd just gotten a huge pile of snow. But she was pretty informative and was able to list off a few different types of compost they'll be carrying. I'll be trying them again next weekend. I'm so anxious to get started! I already have some seeds going indoors in an old Aerogarden.

I was at the Agway in Lancaster, MA today and they received their shipment of Coast of Maine products. This year they are carrying the Lobster Compost and the Cow Manure Compost (which is a blend of cow manure compost and peat humus). The cow compost comes from an organic farm in Maine that does not use hormones or antibiotics for their beef cattle. They also had a CoM compost and peat blend that CoM recommends as a planting mix which I avoided.

I also picked up a bag of MulchMaster, which is a compressed bale of chopped straw that has been heat-treated to kill weed seeds. It's a great mulch and a bag could last me 2 seasons if I would just learn to keep it out of the rain (left mine out last year, it got wet and molded).

I just wonder (a month & a half later, as i have near 70 degree weather) lots o how long did it take to get your 5 types of compost, jjc, and what did you end up with?

I'm seeing lobster compost and other Coast of Maine products everywhere I go these days. I used lobster, cow manure, mushroom and worm castings. Then I ordered some EcoScraps online because I couldn't find anything else locally. But I hear all Targets nationwide will be carrying EcoScraps. I'm pretty happy about that since my first attempts at composting are going slowly. I might have to grab an extra bag to use when I harvest.
