I was making out my new seed lists and read about Strawberry Spinach. Sounds interesting. Anyone here tried it? Does it work well in a SFG?

Yes, tried it 5 or 6 years ago. Was not impressed with flavor. Interesting plant, with the little "strawberries," but not worth it. I'll stick to real spinach, or even better: chard and kale. Nonna

I have some seed, planted this year. I planted several times. It was hard to germinate, even harder to keep growing. I finally got 1 plant to maturity. was not impressed with any of it. I'd put my money into something else.

Thanks for the advice. I was hoping this was a spinach I could grow right thru Aug like its touted in the seed catalog. I guess i won't waste my money on seed. Thanks again.

I had about the same lack of success with strawberry spinach this season but will give it a square again in 2013 hoping for better results. Red Malabar spinach has always been a good grower of something to munch on frequently while working in the garden and is a prolific vertical grower on a small tower, plenty of seeds to save too.

I also agree, not much luck with germation and less luck keeping it alive after that, I would also skip it. I added the rest of my seeds to seed balls I made with the kids.

I already bought some of this and was interested in it too for the heat tolerance. If you would like to try a few seeds I am sure I can spare some. Who can say Flavor is such a personal matter what someone else doesn't particularly care for may taste good to another. So anyways, if you want to try some risk free, let me know and we can work out a way to get you some of my seeds.
