Those kind of winter gardens are very pretty, but not very productive. Pretty picture.

Just came in from the "first" shoveling of the sidewalk. It's coming down almost as fast as I get it cleared. Estimate that about 12" so far. More coming and then wind and very cold temps.

I miss our snow, last year we moved down the mountain from 3500' to about 1800'. We had what we call a "pretend" winter. Snow 3 to 6 times a year 3" to a foot at the most and it would be gone in a few days. However, I couldn't have gardened in the winter up there, we'd get snows as late a April.

It's beautiful!!!

My winter garden is boasting a beautiful white harvest as well! First snow of the season and we got about a foot. Shoveled the walkway and it has already blown in again. But it sure is PRETTY!

Just came in from the 2nd shoveling of the sidewalk. Sun is shining and it is super cold. My car is buried so resting up a bit and back out to attempt to move the car back so the plowing company can clean up the rest of the yard. They worked over 20 hours yesterday to plow out their clients driveways. The snow was so wet and heavy that they had lots of issues with getting stuck themselves.

If I was young and had the money I'd do that for a living - or maybe not. tongue

Well, back out to remove about 10 inches of snow off my car.

It is so beautiful outside - if only I could just stay inside and admire it from the window.

Yes, I think the strawberries, garlic and multiplying onions are safe - at least for the time being.

that is a beautiful sight! absolutely beautiful!

my kids love it when the snow covers the gardens but not so deep that they cannot wipe down to the beds themselves - they think it's the most fun ever to pick carrots and spinach and eat them outside while snow is all around. (we've learned carrots do well until they freeze - eat them frozen and they're lovely, wait til they thaw and they're mush. but green carrot tops are yummy year round. )

it wsa so warm last winter that we never had a lot of frozen veg problems (but we did have lots of bugs in spring).

hoping we get snow and cold this winter!

Hey, a question for you ice queens :-) We got a hard freeze last night that produced about 1 1/2" depth of ice in my fountain. Temps were probably 25 or so. My lemon lavender is frozen. Does lavender come back after cold or will I need to order new seeds?

We are having bee issues in California, so I like having lots of lavender to draw them in.
