happy hi Hi everyone, we have been browsing here quite a time and thought should write in at last. The Square Foot idea of growing veg & herbs in a compact yet productive way seems very practical. Having said that, my wife is the real 'food stuff' grower here and up to the early 1950's was taught a lot by her Dad who was a professional gardener. (Before boys claimed more of her spare time). Wink I wasn't much of a gardener but couldn't help noticing the neat rows of veg, attractive flowers and clematis covered air-raid shelter they used as a potting shed. We came to Dorset from a West Midland village getting on for half a century ago now by the way.

My wife has always tended the small veg plot although not very productive because attacked by too many bugs etc. So last year I made a raised bed cloche 11ft x 3ft protected with insect-proof mesh, then she tried the square foot way and thinks it's great. I love you
I also got keen on the idea and added two 12ft x 4ft cloches but at the moment starting again, as decided to raise them higher using sawn-logs to gain extra light.
Hope to send in one or two photos soon, and next time write to the appropriate European section as believe this is the right thing to do?

Wish you all very successful gardening,
from us in south Dorset UK. wave smile wave smile

Welcome to the forum. Being an Anglophine, I'd love seeing how your garden grows now that you are covering them. Pictures are always so fun and helpful. Glad to have another member on board.

Hello Dorsetsouth,
Wink Are you near the old fossil beach ??? Laughing

Welcome on board ,
It's good to hear how the not so young are making All new Square Foot Gardening their way of life .

Perhaps you or your lass will let us all in on the sucessful ways to propagate the main plants in the flower garden and any tips you can offer on any of the veg side of things.

Welcome Dorsetsouth!
How exciting to have such experienced gardeners from across the pond join our group. I started sfg when I could no longer crawl around on the ground to work my garden so I'm new to sfg too.
looking forward to your pictures!
