What to do with an excess of habanero peppers? Empty What to do with an excess of habanero peppers?

I've got a dozen ripe habanero peppers (I think - they may be jalepeno, hubby can't remember what type of plant he bought) and I can't stand to see them go to waste. Personally, I don't like spicy/hot foods, so I was thinking a sweet/spicy jelly or jam....

Anybody got any recipes or suggestions? Significant other doesn't want them pickled..... which would have been the obvious (and easiest) solution. Rolling Eyes

Have you thought about drying them? then you can use little bits of it at a time.

Do you have enough for a jar of Cowboy Candy? One of the online recipes similar to that I use: http://tastykitchen.com/recipes/canning/candied-jalapenos-cowboy-candy/ If you do indeed have habaneros, leave off the cayenne. BTW, habaneros and jalapenos don't look all that much alike, so, unless the two plants hybridized, the fruits are different: jalapenos are smooth, habaneros almost always have some "pleats" on one end.

I have to admit that I chop hot peppers, place in ice cube trays then cover with water and freeze. I place the cubes in a ziplock and grab a few out to use in various recipes throughout the winter. That recipe for Cowboy Candy looks interesting.

That cowboy candy recipe looks awesome! I don't have enough peppers to do the full thing, but maybe a half recipe....although there was another recipe for 'kentucky bar fight jam' on that website that looks good too.... Very Happy

Bet we could use that Cowboy Candy recipe with other things, too...like leave out the spices and use ginger.

Haven't tried the Kentucky Bar Fight Jam, but for an appetizer at a Rally, spread over and around a block of good quality cream cheese, and served with Ritz crackers, it was popular with the guys....'specially the ones with a beer and a touch of macho. Nonna

Also, just in case you aren't aware, habanero peppers are much, much hotter than a jalapeno. Here's a cool site for reference:
