I went to my local nurseryman recently and asked him if his beautiful ornamental kale was edible. He said it was not, but I have since found out that this is not true. In fact, my search on the Internet has revealed that not only is it edible, it is very delicious, especially after it has experienced a few frosty nights. This relative of cabbage should not be bothered by worms this late in the year like they often harass other members of the Brassica family. I plan to buy a few mature plants in a few days to replace my Green Ice lettuce, which is bolting like crazy now.
Has anyone one else eaten ornamental kale?
