It's not time for harvesting just yet, but when the time comes, would you be interested in some Dragon's Tongue Beans . I'm guessing here in another month or so, they should be ready.
I am my gardens worst enemy.

Yes I would like to try some of those. I know it will be a few months yet for the bean seed to come in. Re: Heirloom Tomato: Gilbertie Seed to Trade
I'd love some Gilbertie's.
I have a number of different heirloom tomatoes to trade, sorghum, red dye amaranth, muncher cucumber, red chili peppers, orange habanero, sheeps nose pepper, fish pepper (couple weeks until I get these seeds ready), punta banta tomato, hopi blue corn (wouldn't be ready for at least a month).
I grew out a mix of heirloom tomatoes and kept what I felt were the best few to save seeds from. I was looking for tough plants that survived even with minimal care and watering, still had fruit I liked and also had plenty of easily harvestable seeds. I don't know the names of the varieties, just kept what I liked the best.

yellow tomato
I, too, have some tomato seeds to trade, saved this year from a large yellow, low-acid, variety called Dagma's Perfection. Warning: it's a long season variety, but when they begin to ripen up, you get lots. I'd like anyone who takes some of these seeds to let me know how Dagma performs in their garden. Would like to trade for short season, open pollinated tomatoes. Nonna

Tomato seed
I would like to try Dagma's perfection, since I have a very long season. I already bought some Gilbertie seeds. I did not save/have any to eat this yr. due to Southern blight. I've been getting some seeds for next yr. from different sources. One seed site is Wintersown.org. They will send 6 types for a sase, for free. You may be able to get your short season varieties there.Nonna.PapaVino wrote:I, too, have some tomato seeds to trade, saved this year from a large yellow, low-acid, variety called Dagma's Perfection. I do have some Snowberry White Cherry tomato seeds, which are supposed to start fruitting early, and are different, yellow skin, with white insides?
All the other seed I got are long season.
All that survived the SB was SW. pot., Strawberries, Okra and Peppers, hot and sweet.
I'll send you a pm. Jo

Re: Heirloom Tomato: Gilbertie Seed to Trade
Greetings!
For those of you that have already sent me seeds, I am packaging up and will send out tomorrow the Gilbertie seed to you.
For any of you that may have sent me a PM about seed in the past and have not heard from me, please send me another PM. For anyone in the south interested in the Gilbertie tomato seed, it's nearing time to sow your seed. If you would like to trade, drop me a line.

Re: Heirloom Tomato: Gilbertie Seed to Trade
GWN, only way I can answer is by what I do, which is start tomato seeds in sunroom by the end of February, then move them into larger containers in the greenhouse in March, and keep potting them up until, by the middle of May, they're in 2-gallon pots. They go into the garden proper early June, laid down in trenches so the stems are planted under soil to encourage extra root formation--the top 1/3 almost immediately starts to follow the sun to an upright position. At that point, I set the tomato cages and train the new tomato plant into its final position. This year, I shall get more serious about using a hoop house over my tomatoes with hope for earlier harvest. We'll see. Only other thing I do is plant at least a half dozen different tomato plants. Some years a certain blight will hit and some varieties will be wiped out, others survive. Think the technical term is "hedging my bets." Nonna

Re: Heirloom Tomato: Gilbertie Seed to Trade
Well I am excited to try Dagmas perfection, and like you will try several other ones.
One thing I am going to try this year is very large cloches for getting them out a bit earlier.
I was given about 50 (I think 5 gallon) clear water bottles, that were on their way to the dump..
We have cut off the tops and I am hoping to be able to start the tomatoes in the ground at least a few weeks earlier. We WILL have to compare.
Sorry camprn for hijacking....
